THE
ANTICHRIST OF YESTERDAY AND OF TODAY
The
name "Antichrist" was given by Saint John to the current
opposing the Christ : "The Antichrist is the one who
claims that Jesus is not the Christ" (1 Jn 2,22).
This
enemy of Christ has already existed in the past, said
Paul and John, and he will return with great power before
the Return of Christ and disappear forever. He has
already appeared in this world, is still here and will
disappear, once and for all. Therefore, we cannot speak
of the antichrist of "tomorrow".
The
Antichrist of Yesterday :
"You
have heard that the Antichrist was coming (in the
future). and we know that many antichrists have already
come. They have left us, because they never really
belonged to us ;
if
they were a part of us, they would have stayed with us."
(1 Jn 2,18-19).
According
to John, these antichrists were the Jews who, after
believing in Jesus and joining the judeo-christian
community, refused to acknowledge him as the expected
Messiah because He did not correspond to the political
aspirations of the Jews (See text "The Drama of Jesus").
John
explains who this Antichrist is and why he will reappear
in the future : "The one who claims that Jesus is not the
Christ, is the Antichrist" (1 Jn 2,22). He has appeared
in Palestine, eager to establish the Zionist "messianic"
empire, which is opposed to the spiritual and universal
Kingdom of Christ.
John
confirms this in his second letter : "Many deceivers are
spread in the world, they do not confess Jesus Christ,
they are the Deceivers, the Antichrist" (2 Jn 7).
These
verses clearly prove that the Antichrist is a human group
opposed to Jesus.
As
for Saint Paul, he calls this anti-Christ current
differently, stating that this "Enemy" of Christ is due
to appear on the eve of Christ's Return :"That (the
Return of Jesus) cannot happen until the Wicked One, the
Lost One, the Enemy (Antichrist) has appeared.
The
mystery of iniquity is already at work." (2 Thess
2,3-7).
We
must also notice that the "Enemy" (the Antichrist) has to
appear before Jesus returns, and that the "mystery of
iniquity" is already in progress. These are the
"Deceivers" and the "Antichrists" denounced by John in
his second letter.
The
Antichrist of Today :
The
announced Antichrist is amongst us today. He is
recognizable by his rejection of Jesus and by his
presence in Palestine. He shall disappear forever ! The
Christ unmasked him : He is the "Beast" of chapter 13 of
the Book of Revelation. (See our text "The Key of the Apocalypse").
His
return will sound the loud apocalyptical trumpet of the
great universal trial and of the glorious Return of the
Christ : Jesus of Nazareth.
